HAITI RELIEF: By now you have all heard about the devastation in Haiti. As a church we would
like to respond to this crisis by taking an offering this Sunday for the UMCOR International
Disaster Response Advance #418325. Please make checks payable to First UMC and write "Haiti"
on the memo line.
We will be assembling and sending Health Kits to Haiti. A health kit consists of a hand towel,
washcloth, standard sized comb, nail file or clippers, bar of soap, toothbrush, 6 adhesive
plastic strip sterile bandages, and $1 for toothpaste and $1.50 for shipping, placed in a
sealed one-gallon plastic bag.
For the past three years, members of First United Methodist Church have traveled to
Pearlington, MS, to aid in reconstruction efforts following Hurricane Katrina. These mission
trips have been very meaningful to both the recipients of the projects carried out and those
who have given generously of their time and effort to aid those whose homes have
been damaged or destroyed.
On the local level, First United Methodist Church members reach out to support the
efforts of food pantries and shelters for victims of domestic violence through donation
of food items, toiletries, and clothing.
