Prayer Shawl Ministry
The creation of loving prayer shawls for people needing the warm arms of concern wrapped
around them is the mission of the First United Methodist Church’s Prayer
Shawl Ministry. Prayer shawls are a tangible evidence of the love and
prayers that have been expressed for the recipient.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry members knit or crochet shawls that
are given to persons who are ill, have suffered a loss, or are
in the midst of a life crisis. They are also made for celebrations: whether
it be a birthday, anniversary, graduation, the celebration of a
friendship or birth of a long awaited child. After each shawl
is completed it is dedicated in church and hears the prayers of
our congregation. Dedication of shawls takes place on the
last Sunday of each month during worship.
